With more than 150 poems shared so far, I wanted to answer a few questions I've received. I've reworded some of the questions.
Q: Can I submit a poem?
A: Yes! I welcome submissions. Who am I missing? You can just email a poem or link to me. Just don't be offended if your submission doesn't end up being sent out (I'm an intuitive, occasionally fickle, reader, and I don't share poems if I can't verify them and their source myself). Please limit submissions to published poems only.
Q: Do you even read email comments, bro?
A: Well, here I am! I read every comment received, and I truly value them. My response to your email, if it makes sense to respond, is likely to be late as I tend to wait and respond to multiple comments at once.
Q: You seem to favor men in your selections. True?
A: In fact, I keep stats of this (to the best of my ability to know gender). At the time of writing, there have been 155 poems published, 91 (59%) by men, 64 (41%) by women. Given the historical (im)balances, and that this newsletter reflects my daily reading habits, I think that's a reasonable number.
Q: How many subscribers do you have?
A: I honestly don't know. There must be a few because I receive comments, but I have gone to some length from the beginning---including working with the Buttondown developer (who is wonderful!) to get a custom CSS class in one spot---to hide all stats. I have no idea how many subscribers there are, how many emails are opened, how many links are clicked...nothing.
Q: Google sucks. Why do you link to Google Books all the time?
A: Not all books have Wikipedia entries, and even when they don't usually have as much information. I think Google Books will be around long enough that stability isn't an issue. If you have other suggestions, please let me know!
What the heck, here's a really short poem:
Second Fig
Safe upon the solid rock the ugly houses stand:
Come and see my shining palace built upon the sand!
